Question

Windows 7 installed on one of the system. There was some problem.. i had no recovery, no backup. So i wanted to reinstall windows and preserver data at least. when i tried to reinstall, it gave this error, "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is not of the GPT partition style". So i cannot format or convert partition style because data will be lost. what is best solution for this ?

Backup the data and then reinstall Windows, not the other way around.

Hi adnan.sabir,
As Tripredacus suggested, we should backup the data, clean the drive then reinstall the system.
Windows Setup: Installing using the MBR or GPT partition style

Hi adnan.sabir,
We should boot into the system to make a backup.
If it is not available to boot into the machine, we should troubleshoot the boot issue firstly.
Boot from a Windows 10 installation media, then choose "Fix my computer", "Troubleshoot", "Advanced", "Startup repair". We could try to boot into safe mode to have a test(Startup options\Safe mode).Best regards

When I do repair work of this type, it depends. If there is no known instances of malware being on the OS drive, I can take the drive out of the PC and put into another to copy the data. If malware has been on the system, then I would use a WinPE disc or USB to boot the original system and copy the files/folders manually. Usually in my own scenarios, I know where all the data is, or where personal data is common to be kept, so I do not use any fancy programs to do the work.
The malware consideration is to protect the additional computer from being infected. Methods to put the old drive in the other computer for data recovery varies. I may use normal connection or maybe a USB adapter.
