Skype and WSUS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there any possibility to update skype via wsus?

In our company updates without administrator permission is denied. So I have a really problem to update over 1000 pc manually. We have a wsus server and skype for windows checked as product to update. But I don't have any updates to approve.

Please advice me any variant how i can do it automatically

  • Are you talking about the Consumer Skype software, or the Enterprise "Skype for Business" software?
Do you have any other Client Management systems? ConfigMgr?

Similar thread with useful info, especially if you're taking about Skype for Windows being the consumer version, not the Skype for Business: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/0e4b9500-ce24-46a8-bd55-7395a03cae81/skype-update-install-over-wsus-?forum=winserverwsus

  • no, not really, since the updates for 'Skype for Windows Desktop', aren't released via WSUS.

    http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=skype%20for%20windows

Skype for Windows Desktop, is not maintained via WSUS channels - instead it's a self-update model, like OneDrive NGSC, and a lot of newer software titles from MSFT these days.

If you have some other software deployment management method, used for deploying the software, you can use that for maintaining it also.

Don [doesn't work for MSFT, and they're probably glad about that ;]
