SCCM Client not Installing RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All

I know there are several forums / sites explaining why SCCM clients fail, however 99% of the time they refer to the Sys Admin looking at the ccmSetup log files on the client device in the c:\windows\ccm or c:\windows\system32\ccmsetup etc

However my issue is that i have a collection containing 30 devices, I go into the Site Based Collection > Expand one of the collections to see all the clients

Initially i highlighted a batch of Client Devices and went through the install process, however this did not appear to install the client on the devices

I then selected one device i knew was online, i was able to remote desktop to the device to watch any on screen actions and upon pushing the client (right clicking > Install Client) nothing appeared to happen, there was no log file or CCM folder created to even start troubleshooting and no ccmsetup in the task manager?

Firewall was off and so was AV for this visual test and still Client did not install

I manually installed the client by UNC'ing to the Primary SCCM Server and this installed without issue

SCCM Console then shown this client as having a client installed, now i have 29 devices in the same position

Clients are all Windows 7 desktops and i am able to see all these clients in the right collection so it is not as though the collection cannot see them

I am able to do a wbemtest and connect to the root\cimv2 location on the client so WMI appears fine, i am also able to unc to \\clientdevice\admin$

I am wondering why this is happening? i have installed clients in other localised collections this way without issue

The clients have a local admin user account that matches that of the SCCM account too used for the deployment of software etc

Any advice would be grateful, the fact there are no logs on the Client Device is the main burden for troubleshooting, i cannot see a relevant log on the SCCM Primary Server to use

    Kind Regards

    Barrie

The site code has nothing to do with collections and only have one site doesn't mean the resources are actually assigned to it. Based on the fact that you have activity in ccm.log though, the resources must be assigned. As for drawing board, not sure why you'd go back there. When you say that the firewall is off, what exactly does that mean? Also, as you mentioned previously, is the WMI service running? Can you connect to WMI on the remote system from the site server using wbemtest?

  • On your site server, there should be a ccm.log in the Program Files\Microsoft COnfiguration Manager\LOgs directory.  What does that log file show? It will record the client push installation attempts - the initial connection to the device, the copying of ccmsetup, etc.

Client installation is completely silent -- there is no possibility of any on screen interaction.

In addition to checking ccm.log, are the resources in the collection assigned to the site; i.e., do they have a site code specified?

  • Hi Jeff

Many thanks for this, i was trying to look for the log file on the actual client and not the site server.

the Primary Site Server CCM.log States the following, i have used CMTraceTool to make use of the log

    ---> Attempting to connect to administrative share '\\302405\admin$' using account 'RJW_AD\svc_SCCMPush' SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER 25/11/2015 08:57:13 5364 (0x14F4)

I have a feeling it is the WMI not running or something on the device although Firewall is off> ill see if this can be remotely started

Worse case i may have to get the client installed on Startup via group Policy for this site

    Thanks Again,

    Barrie

  • Hi Jason

thanks for taking the time to read the post and respond

What i should of mentioned was that whilst remoting on to the client device, i was also watching task manager to hopefully see the CCMSetup.exe or similar running which it did not appear too

Collection setup etc are all set correctly, wwe only have one Site with the one site Code to make life easier to manage
