Finalizing Transition from Exchange 2003 to 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am near the last step of transitioning from Exchange 2003 to 2007. Prior to decommisioning Exchange 2003, I turned it off on Monday, Oct 3, to be sure it is not needed any longer.

Today, I checked my Exchange 2007 Queue Viewer. There is a stuck message that looks something like this:

    Subject: Hierarchy
    From Address: PublicFolderDatabase@MyDomainName.com
    Status: Ready
    Size (KB): 4
    Date Received: 10/12/2011 9:39:00 AM
    Expiration Time: 10/14/2011 9:39:00 AM
    Recipients:  EXCH2003-IS@MyDomainName.com

It appears that Exchange 2007 is still trying to send Public Folder hierarchy to the legacy Exchange 2003 that isn't running at the moment.

I've removed all public folder replications between the 2 servers. I also moved all replicas (ESM - Public Folder Store - Move All Replicas) to Exchange 2007 before shutting down Exchange 2003 a little over a week ago. However, the 2-way routing group connectors between Exchange 2007 and 2003 are still left intact (not yet removed).

I'm not sure what to check to stop Exchange 2007 from contacting 2003 that's about to be decommissioned. Will it stop sending hierarchy if I remove the 2-way routing group connector and finally uninstall Exchange 2003?

    1. Hierachy will be replicated across and not the content, to be sure, leave it on maybe for another day or so and check the event log for any content replication.

  • Hi morph,

Since you haven't decommisioned your Exchange 2003 server yet, I would suggest you check the settings as link lists again:
