Programs and preferences not kept after shut down and restart RRS feed

  • Question

  • Windows 8.1 Pro, 64 bit

I am new to this forum and I am new to Windows 8. My last experience was with Windows 7 Ultimate on my home computer. I now have Windows 8.1 Pro at work - old computer was running Windows XP (which I love - it was so easy to use and navigate through).

Can anyone tell me why my desktop settings are not kept after my computer is shut down for the weekend. When I restart my computer on Monday morning, my desktop personalization including icons and programs cannot be located. I have to shut down again and reboot. Then my desktop, icons, and programs are as I configured them.

  • Hi,

Did this issue occur just on weekend? Did it occur frequently or one time?

"When I restart my computer on Monday morning, my desktop personalization including icons and programs cannot be located."

What's the exact symptom? Didn't you see the Windows Explorer?

Please check your Event log to see if there is some available clue.
