Project Server 2010 - New instance using the existing databases RRS feed

  • Question

  • We had a instance of Project server 2010. We deleted that instance. Then we created a new instance using the 4 databases from the deleted instance. New site was provisioned without any issues. We could see all the tasks. However when we click on "Project Center", Project ->Project site, we are getting the error message "The web page cannot be found" with the following URL. Note: We have custom template for the the project web site

    ........./_layouts/PWA/Common/WSSNav.aspx?Project=xxxxxxxxx&WSSListType=0

    Any hints on this issue?

  • Hi

So you have restored 4 databases but are trying to access the Project Site - the Project Site is in the '5th database' which is the content database. Sounds like you have just restored Archive, Draft, Published and Reporting here, have you got backups of all 5 databases? Maybe recreate the site based on all 5 being restored (so restore the content, then provision a PWA site based on the 4 other databases - using same site path (e.g. PWA)

    Hope that helps...

Rob, Thank you.  Original site which we deleted was "PWA_Test" and new site is "PWA_Test_New". Could this(new name) be the reason for the error?

    Hi

    So I would;

    1. Restore the most recent SQL backups of all 5 databases (Archive, CONTENT, Draft, Published & Reporting)
    2. Create a new content database using the same name as the restored name above (Maybe lock the amount of sites aswell, to ensure the next step uses the right content db)
    3. Provision a new PWA instance using the same 4 database names

Test from here basically. The 5 db restore is required to retain project site data.

Yes - that could be the problem.

The URL you posted in your original post is used in Project Center when clicking the Project Site button.

    ........./_layouts/PWA/Common/WSSNav.aspx?Project=xxxxxxxxx&WSSListType=0

Project server constructs this URL by looking at the MSP_Projects table out of the Published database.  If you have moved the PWA to a different path, the links to the project sites are likely to be wrong.  You can check this by viewing the links in the Server Settings -> Project Sites page.

If they are wrong you can use the Bulk Update Project Sites tool in Server Settings to correct the path and re-link all projects to their workspace sites.

    Does that help?

    Cheers,

       James
