X-Header setting in FOPE RRS feed

  • Question

  • Looking to implement Spam Action: X-Header instead of the the default "spam quarantine" in FOPE.

Can you please advise what I need to do in Exchange 2010 to process this X-header information to be delivered in the Outlook Junk Email folder?

I know it should be transport rules, is there a step by step instructions on this? Should it be done on the Edge or Hub?

  • Hi,

Once you set the X-header in FOPE, you'll need to create a transport rule in Exchange to bump the SCL rating for those messages.

In the transport rule you'll want to set the following "condition": "when the message header matches text patterns" to the X-header that you've added in FOPE

The "action" for the transport rule will be to "set the spam confidence level to value", see the following article for SCL settings:

This article has more info on transport rules:

  • The name of the header in the transport rule needs to be the same as what you choose in FOPE, but you missed what the value of the header will be. It will always be "This message appears to be spam.". See http://blog.c7solutions.com/2012/12/forefront-online-protection-for.html for the full steps needed to create the transport rule, along with a recommendation to use transport rule string matches rather than regular expressions as mentioned above.
