  • Question

  • Client needs to know if a simple software reload + database restore will restore M&A implementation after a database or server failure, or if additional work is needed for disaster recovery. What are the steps to restore an M&A installation in event of database or M&A server failure?

  • Hello JL-Seattle,

Two things need to be done for disaster recovery:

1 - Backup the PPSMonitoring database.

2 - Pull all your Dashboard Designer items into a local .bswx file and save that file in a backup location.

This will make restoring an M&A installation very easy and it will give you two different options to restore all your dashboard items.

1 - Restore the PPSMonitoring database.

a - Install PerformancePoint Monitoring Server and point that installation to the restored PPSMonitoring database (You do not need to install the Monitoring System Database component).

b - Open up Dashboard Designer, connect to the new Monitoring Server and pull down all the items by using "Refresh" or "Mark Differences".

2 - Install all the components of PerformancePoint Monitoring Server that you had installed before (including the Monitoring System Database component).

a - Open up the .bswx file you saved all your dashboard items too.

b - Connect it to your new Monitoring Server.

c - Use "Mark Differences" to highlights all the items as changed and then use "Publish All" to publish all those items to your Monitoring server.

    Thanks,
