DPM 2016 install/upgrade path RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have several question in regards of DPM 2016.

    1. Which upgrade path should I use? DPM 2016 and after that Update Rollup 8 or use Semi-Annual Channel (SAC) 1801 and 1807? What the difference between those? Update rollup seem more straight forward.

    2.  If I choose SAC path, the upgrade is not clearly defined. Which version of SQL I should initially install? I've read that SQL 2016 SP1 is not supported.

    Is this path seems right?

    a. Install SQL 2016 SP2

    b. Install DPM 2016

    c. Upgrade with 1801

    d. Upgrade with 1807

Are there any patches releases available after 1807?

    Thank you.

  • Hi,

The Semi-Annual Channel (SAC) was a release that has been discontinued and is no longer supported, as both DPM 1801 and 1807 have reached end-of-support, so this makes your choice fairly easy:

Stay with DPM 2016 or upgrade to DPM 2019.

I would recommend to go for the newest possible, DPM 2019 in this case, and then run it on Windows Server 2019 and SQL Server 2016/2017.

    Best regards,
