Windows VPC/Virtualbox - vhd created with Disk2VHD gives bluescreen RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm in the process of taking an old XP laptop and converting it in to a VM.

I successfully used Disk2VHD to make a VHD of the hard drive (I made sure to tick "prepare for use in virtual pc"), and then transferred the VHD file to my workstation using an external USB drive. So, I have the VHD on my desktop.

Now, I've been using VPC and Virtual Box to try and boot from that VHD, but it gives me bluescreen no matter what I do.

I've tried: assigning more RAM, changing from SATA to IDE controller, turning off hardware virtualization..

I think it has something to do with Windows hardware controller, it must be detected a change or it lacks some boot record. But the original drive is not partitioned.

Below is an image of the BSOD.

I apologize if this is in the wrong section of the forums.
