Exchange Management Console Initialization Failed - Processing data from the remote server failed RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am running Exchange 2010 SP2 on SBS 2011. It is the sole server for this business.

The server had hung during Update Rollup 7 for Exchange Server 2010 and was restarted by a technician. Upon restart the server would hang at 'Applying User Settings' during startup. When troubleshooting this I discovered IPv6 on the network adapter had been disabled, i checked the box and the server started up fine with only a short delay on 'Applying User Settings', all the emails started going through. Users can access their files, OWA, everything seems to be working.

The server appeared to be back to normal but upon opening the Exchange Management Console i received an initialization failed message. The same message appeared in the Exchange Management Shell:

    Initialization failed

The attempt to to connect to http://this_server.domain.local/PowerShell using  "Kerberos" authentication failed:
Processing data from remote server failed with the following error message: Active Directory operation failed on this_server.domain.local. This error could have been caused by user input or by the Active Directory server being unavailable. Please retry at a later time. Additional information: Additional information: The directory service encountered an unknown failure.
    Active directory response: 000020EF: SvcErr: DSID-02051126, problem 5012 (DIR_ERROR), data -1526
