Installing an ASP.NET 4.0 website under a WSS 3.0 website RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to run an ASP.NET 4.0 application under a WSS 3.0 website?

    Scenario:

WSS 3.0 Default Web site http://myserver/ in c:\inetpub\wwwroot. This site is configured with ASP.NET 1.1.

A virtual directory MyApp created under the Default Web Site and mapped to c:\inetpub\wwwroot\MyApp. This virtual directory contains an ASP.NET 4.0 website.

When I try to browse to to /MyApp's login page, the browser just displays 404 - Not Found. MyApp works on another server that does not have SharePoint.

  • The 4.0 version of .Net has a new CLR etc.
Even SP2010 does not support .net 4.0

  • Thanks, BioGeneZ.

One more question: If I installed MyApp in a virtual directory under a new web site MySite *on the same server*, would it work? MyApp has nothing to do with SharePoint; it is not a web part or anything like that. It just so happened that there was only one web site on the server, and SharePoint is installed in that web site. The people who installed it probably did not even know that SharePoint was on the server.
