Issue resolving and pinging Local domain DNS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!

We have a domain that has been configured like this:

    domain name: companydomain

    Servers: 2x DC windows 2012

    domain functional level: Windows 2012

no .local, nothing. It was working before but now, we cannot ping or resoolve companydomain ! Somethings, I am able by adding the dot at the end. List of test done:

    -dcdiag, all good

    -dcdiag /test:dns - all good

    -rebooted the 2 DC, done

-verified event logs, done, nothing new

-DNS services has been verified, nothing strange.

-NSlookup, not working for the domain name.

-I am able to ping servername directly, no issue

-Can'T join any computer do domain anymore

-verified that the 2 DC are communicating without any problem

    Any idea of the issue?

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your question.

Can you ping or resolve any other web site outside from internal DNS?

Where did you nslookup to resolve localdomain? Client or DC? Please also check the clients or DC's DNS setting.

Please try the following steps to see if it could be of help.

Please add the DCs’ IP addresses to the name servers tab of the zone’s properties on DNS server MMC.

Please make sure that the DNS is allowed DNS zone transfer as below.

Please try to re-register local domain by typing the following command on the DCs.

    Net stop netlogon

    Net start netlogon

    Then, restart the server.

If the issue persists, please try to add A record for the DCs on the DNS local domain zone manually to see if it works.

Hope above information can help you.

Highly appreciate your effort and time. If you have any question and concern, please feel free to let me know.

    Best regards,

    Michael
