Yet another SCCM 2012 R2 migration question

Question
-
hello all, hope you are well...
so like many others out there I am finally starting the process to migrate our SCCM.
Our Environment ( All server OS are Windows 2008 r2 unless stated)
- 1 x SCCM server
- 1 x SQL server
- 4 x DP ( 2 of which a PXE boot )
- 6 x WIndows 2012 R2 DP located in branch offices
We are running SCCM 2012 R2 CU4, and have approx. 12500 client devices - so its not a massive estate
So after going round in circles and a poor MDS engagement with local MS Partner I am now seeking help here....
My initial plan was
- Build new servers 2012 r2 with new names
- Install SCCM 2012 R2 CU4 on new servers
- Export current DB
- Shutdown existing servers
- Import to new servers
- Rename new servers
- In Place upgrade to 1710???
any thoughts, advice would be appreciated.

Why do you want to still install Server 2012 R2? That's on old OS.
One way would be installing a new CM CB site and migrate everything over; use DP sharing and "move" them to the new site then.Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

hello, thanks for the reply
at the moment we have some licensing issues, that would need to be resolved before looking at later MS OS.
Cool idea about a new site and migrate over, is there a good blog post anywhere about the process?

This should get you started: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/migration/planning-for-migration
