Are there any official Microsoft tools or Windows built-in tools for installed system (or installation image) slimming and thorough system cleaning? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I know about nLite or CCleaner, but i'd like to know, whether there are some built-in tools in Windows itself, or maybe MS have some tools that do same work (or better) - slimming the Windows 2k/XP/2k3 ISO and helping thorough clean whole installed system (disk, registry, some other errors)? Not counting default System Cleaner or Disk Defragmenter, are there some hidden tools?

  • Microsoft does not support third-party tools used to reduce the size of the standard Windows image.  It would be counter-productive and likely result in system instability issues, licensing issues, and/or Windows Update issues.  If you're having some performance issues, look into How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP.

  • Third-parties not, but do MS has OWN tools for such purposes? Or are such tools built in Windows? Not counting Check Disk, System Cleaner and Disk Defragmenter?

  • Nope, 3rd party utilities are your only option.

  • So assuming that there aren't really any hidden tools (for chosen ones even), i must use only 3rd parties..

    Thanks for answers anyway.
