I am in the process of upgrading an SQL 2005 instance with SSRS and SSAS to SQL 2012. It will be an in-place upgrade. Can someone let me know what needs to be backed up in case we need to rollback? I have compiled a list of items to backup but not sure if
everything is covered.
Backup all user and system databases
Back up symmetric key for SSRS
Back up report server databases
Back up the report server configuration files
back up Analysis Services database
Also I am assuming I will need to upgrade all components Database Engine, Integration Services, Analysis Services, Reporting Services together via the SQL Server setup? These components cannot be upgraded one at a time?
I will ask you to do side by side upgrade because SSAS and SSIS packages are involved which might give unexpected error with packages like some not working properly after you upgrade to SQL server 2012 .
