Windows Explorer Properties Details dialog fails to edit "Date taken" Property of .jpg files properly RRS feed

  • Question

  • In Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise Service Pack 1 64-bit, the Windows Explorer, Properties, Details tab for .jpg files includes an Origin section with a "Date taken" Property. The Value for this Property can be edited. However, in edit mode only the month, day, and year can be specified. After saving the month, day, and year, the current time is appended to the Value. The resulting Value is therefore incorrect. Windows Explorer needs to be fixed so that the editing of the field matches all of the components that will be saved. Ideally, the time specification would be optional although the flexibility should be consistent with whatever jpg or metadata standards exist for this field.

  • Hi,

I made a test in our testing environment, same phenomenon with yours.

This should be a by design in Windows, uninstall Windows 10, it still have same phenomenon.

However, in my opinion, the hours, minutes followed by day is reasonable which used to specific which time it was modified.

  • As stated in the original post, this issue applies to Windows 7.

Not allowing specification of the hours and minutes and instead using the current time is not reasonable. This is a defect in Windows that leads to incorrect data.
