  • I've been reading Prerequisites for client deployment on http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682042.aspx#BKMK_prereqs_computers to try and figure out what gets installed and what doesn't by defult. Ones we are mostly concerned about are the ones below:

Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) version 6.20.5002 or later - Required to support the processing of XML documents in Windows.

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable version 8.0.50727.42 - Required to support Microsoft SQL Server Compact operations.

Windows Imaging APIs 6.0.6001.18000 - Required to allow Configuration Manager to manage Windows image (.wim) files.

Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 components - Required to store information related to client operations.Microsoft Windows Imaging Components - Required by Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 for Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP SP2 for 64-bit computers.

Do these really get installed on all clients by default or only on when required? We are already running 2007 client on these servers. Is it safe to assume some of these are installed on servers already?

  • ccmsetup.exe parameters (/parameter) cannot be added as a client push installation property. Client push only accepts msi properties (PROPERTY).
SQL Server compact is used by the CM12 client to store information locally.

  • Just try it in a testlab to find out how the servers in your enviornment will act. Those prereqs will only be installed if they are not already present.

  • Can client push method be used to exclude certain components like silverlight?

    /skipprereq:Silverlight.exe

  • And what does "Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 components" do exactly? Some of the clients I have installed do not have this!?
