Deploy XP .WIM custom image via CD/DVD RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello.

I'm a little out of date, but i use WDS and BDD 2007

    I deploy only windows XP.

I only have one deployment point, LAB.

I hand build a perfect PC, then i capture the image with WDS/BDD2007

Then i upload the image to my BDD2007 workbench and make it available.

THEN.....my techs PXE boot, they get to the WINPE and enter thier credentials to get to my distribution share, which propmts them w/ the available builds/images, and then they select their build image.

My problem is that the new M4500 inspiron laptop will not even pull an IP, not even an ethernet controller(no mac, no anything for NIC hardware).  i've tried adding new drivers all to no avail

So i'm looking to just hand the techs a DVD, which has my custom m4500 image on it. and have the image unloaded via DVD off network.  But i need it to be super easy(i'm not the smartest techie).  The only thing i would need windows PE for would be for them to enter the computer name.

I have my custom m4500 .wim file i have created, but it's not an iso....

I see i can make a new distribution point, a media point.  But all the documents i find only briefly talk about how to make one and where to go from there.  It only talks about adding one and then really skips the much needed steps.  i have created a media distribution point, but i do'nt know where to go from there.  I think the media point is the way i want to go( make bootbale DVDs to unload a build/image), but all the documentation i find barely talks about it and doesnt go indepth or step by step.

Any help or information you can provide in regards to ANY of this would be great

    thank you so much

  • you know what, maybe this is my problem.

when i add the NIC to my out of box DRIVERS....

i cannot successfully update my distribution point(LAB), when i right click and do a full update it fails and points to this log

so i think that tells me that the PE is not updated or changed to show or use the new drivers

can anyone make sense of this????
