RSG QUERY in EX 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All

    Greetings!!

I have a Exchange 2007 Sp3 32 Bit Setup where i have one Storage Group and 4 Databases in the mailbox server. i have an query or need a calrification while restore the emails from RSG in Exchange 2007.

My Scenario : Whenever the user is asking for restore the email, I need to create 4 RSG database in Exchange 2007. But my the user is belongs any one of the Database.

Eg: When the user from database 4 is asking to restore the email from backup, means i have to create 4 RSG database in GUI. Why ? is that by deisgin. My concern is , it unnecessary occupies the RSG Database in the Drive Space.

if the  user is belongs to database 4 , can't we create the RSG database for the Orginal Database 4?

also, once the RSG created, i  can see all the 4 database in the " MOUNT or DISMOUNT  database in RSG (GUI), is that desgin!!!?  can't we see the single  database where the user is belongs to

Can you please clear my doubts?

    Thanks in advance

Thanks for psoting the above link, Which is showing, how to manage RSG in Ex2007, with single database.

my scenario is Managing RSG with multiple Database, here is the scenario again

i have 1 Storage Group and 4 databse

Whenever the user is asking for restore the email from 4th Database(user belongs to 4th DB), I need to create 4 RSG database in Exchange 2007.

Eg: When the user from database 4 is asking to restore the email from backup, means i have to create 4 RSG database in GUI. Why ? is that by deisgin. My concern is , it unnecessary occupies the RSG Database in the Drive Space.

I assume that you are using windows server backup

Recovery can be done either in-place or out of place. In-place recovery will restore all of the backed up storage groups to their original location, and perform a recovery automatically (by default). This implies that there is no explicit support for Recovery Storage Groups (RSG). In order to use a RSG, you should restore "out of place", which will restore the data to an alternate location

--------Refer to <Details of Exchange 2007 SP2 in-box backup when running on Windows Server 2008>

Select Recover to another location to restore individual storage groups and files to a specified location. Click Browse to specify the alternate location. If you use this option, you can restore a single or multiple storage groups into a custom location. Once restored, the data files can then be moved into a recovery storage group

--------Refer to <How to Restore a Backup of Exchange Using Windows Server Backup>

  • With window NT backup, can’t you refer the article below to select the database 4 specifically for restore?
