Accessing an archived DPM Database RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a DPM server that has gotten corrupt. We have built a new DPM server to take its place but do not want to migrate the old DPM database to it. Is there a way to access the old DPM database for restoring backups from tape? We use a 5 week rotations on our weekly tape backups and our monthly tapes are held for 5 years.

We would very much appreciate and help with this.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Mark,

You can import your tapes into the new DPM-server and perform restores without using your old DPM-database.
It can be done either via the DPM-console or through PowerShell:

How to Identify an Unknown Tape

How to Recatalog an Imported Tape

    Kind Regards

  • Hello Markus,

Thank you for the reply and suggestion. Importing the tapes into the new server would be a large job as we currently have 131 monthly tapes for that server. There are another 53 weekly tapes that I figure would be overwritten in 5 weeks.

    Thanks,
