DPM license for Windows Server 2008 Bare Metal Recovery RRS feed

Answers

  • I believe for Windows 2008 sytemstate / bmr - you only need a standard license, but before you enable protection for BMR, look under the management tab and note the enterprise licenes required and then protect BMR and note the licenses required again.  If it didn't changee, then standard is the answer.  This assumes DPM was not already protecting a enterprise level data source (application data) on that server.

  • Thanks for the answer. Although it is interesting that You need Enterprise license for Windows Server 2003 BMR and Standard for Windows Server 2008 BMR.

  • Hi,

BMR for Windows 2003 required the use of DPM System Recovery Tool (SRT) and that required enterprise licenses.  DPM 2010 has BMR built in for Windows 2008 servers.  DPM SRT 2010 is still required for Windows 2003 BMR protection.
