Startup repair cannot repair this comptuer automatically..... RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, my laptop (Studio XPS 1640 Windows 7 64 bit) was working fine until today when I installed some windows updates.  I restarted my laptop about 10 minutes after and it goes to the starting windows screen and it just blacks out and gives me options to "Run Windows Normally"  Or "System repair (recommended)  Something along the lines of that.  I used my CD and I tried without it.  No luck  Just says windows can't repair automatically.  My problem details are:

    Problem Signature01: 6.1.7600.16385, Problem Signature02:6.1.7600.16385, Problem Signature03:Unknown,problem Signature04:21200781,Problem Signature05: AutoFailOver,Problem Signature 06:12,Problem Signature07:NoRootCause  OS: Version:6.1.7600.2.0.0256.1 Locale ID" 1033

Anything I can do to fix this?  I'm trying to prevent from doing a CLEAN install because I don't have everything backed up and System restore points don't work either.

  • If you press f8 on boot up do you get a menu where you can choose safe mode. If you do and it loads u may be able use system restore to revert your computer back to a time before the updates were installed and hopefully when it was working.

  • I tried that, but it doesn't even allow safe mode

  • I apologize for the double post.  Couldn't get it resolved so I had no choice, but to clean install it.  I'm dual booting Ubuntu with it in case Windows craps out on me for the 5th time (Literally)
