SharePoint 2010 Datasheet View showing Look-up Column data with #string preceding data RRS feed

  • Question

  • A user with 64bit office (and the Microsoft hotfix for the database engine so that datasheet view will work in the first place) recently submitted a ticket saying that their Datasheet view was no longer working. This is not the only user with 64 bit Office and this hotfix, but this is the only user with the problem below.

After reinstalling Internet Explorer 9 and the hotfix, we were able to open lists from their PC once more in datasheet view. However, now the user cannot actually use datasheet view for any list that includes a look-up or calculated value column. It does not recognize the data in the fields as being a correct option, and when you pull down the menu for the options, all show with #string before the data. If you try to edit any other columns, you cannot save or continue because you are immediately prompted to change the data in the look-up columns to one of the values with #string preceding.
I found some fairly ancient (2008) forums and threads and a Microsoft KB article with a hotfix that does NOT work with Office 2010.

KB 948952 does not work. It can not be installed, because there is nothing for it to effect installed on the PC. Is there an updated fix for Office 2010/Windows 7? Or any ideas?
