Strange Call Forwarding Issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all,

We are experiencing a strange call forwarding problem here with our Lync system. If someone calls me and I forward the call from the lync interface to say my cell phone it works fine, also if I'm in a call and transfer to my cell that works fine, if I have simultaneous ring on that works fine. The issue we are having is if I set call forwarding to on and say to my cell phone this is not working sometimes it will ring for a quick second and if I answer it will connect but most the time it just rings out on the other end or goes to my voicemail. I find it strange that this and only this does not work while all other means of call forwarding work. On a side note if an internal number calls me when I have call forwarding on that works fine. So if anyone has any ideas that would be appreciated I will post some of my log files below this post. Thanks.

  • Sorry, I'm having a bit of trouble understanding the issue.  So when you have call forwarding set to also call your cell, sometimes the call will only ring your cell once and stop before Exchange voicemail takes over?

  • Please check if this issue happen to other Lync users.

Did it ever work? How long does this problem last?

Open Call Forwarding option, set the unanswered call will go to none instead of voice mail.

Then check the call forward feature.

Use Lync Logging Tool to collect trace file on Lync Front End and Monitoring Server when you transfer a call.

  • can you please test the follows:

set the forwarding to your mobile , call from Lync to Lync (internal source or in the range of your numbers)  to the forwarded ext #. and see if it always works!

then call from another mobile or from international number for the forwarded number. also check if always work ! or never did !!

some providers they wont allow none owned number to be used and they will reject the call.

this means if someone called your number(forwarded EXT#) and the calling number(source) is external number. lync will foward the call source calling number is External not owned by your company. provide will drop the call or cause such problem.

also try to check your voice-gateway ?

for example if you got an E1 - "debug ISDN q931" and check when the call not forwarded what's going on the voice  gateway.

    "disconnect cause"

  • I ran debugs on our voice-gateway and the DISCONNECT reason is "Cause : normal call clearing" So it's getting a response as if the call was answered, also I made sure with our carrier that their forwarding settings would work as you described. I did that before this post as that was the initial problem and they made the appropriate configuration changes on their end. And calling from Lync to Lync I have not yet run across an instance where it didn't work correctly I've only been able to produce the problem when calling external to Lync.

  • Hey, sorry to revive a dead post, but I would be interested in finding out if you ever found a solution. I have been working with Microsoft PSS for literally 4 months on a very similar issue. Calls to specific users give a quick ring, then go nowhere. Only certain users are affected. If you are still having the issue maybe we can compare notes.
