FIM 2010 Workflow instance always running RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

In FIM 2010 R1 I see 6 workflow instances that are running for more than 10 days. These workflows are associated with some request which were in Authorizing status. The approval of these requests failed. Today I tried to cancel the request and another request was produced which remained for more than 20 minutes in PostProcessing Status. In this situation I cancelled the request in PostProcessing status and they passed in CancelPostProcessing Status. But the requests that I tried to cancel, remain in the Canceling status and the Workflow instances associated with them are still running.

All other request for approval that use the same workflow as the above request are completed normally. Can i delete the workflow instances that are running for more than 10 days? If not, will this workflow instances always be running?

  • I think you should wait until the process will be terminated after the default retention time

Check if you have errors in event viewer of Database connection, i had the same issue.

Is the sql server agent is started ?

Try to change the retention time.

    1.  Update the retention time:
      • Go to “Administration => All Resources” and search for “System Resource Retention Configuration” resource type.
      • Open the “Request and workflow instance retention period configuration” object.
      • Go to “Extended Attributes” and update the “Retention Period in Days” attribute with the intended value.
      • Click “Ok” to submit the change.

  • Hello,

The 6 requests that are in status Canceling (even though I canceled PostProcessing) correspond to 6 Workflow instances that are Running. The other workflow instances that are related with the same workflow of the 6 above, are created and completed normally, I don't have any problem with them. (The sqlserver agent is running).

The default value for "Retention Period in Days" is 30 days in the system. My question is, if these workflow instances (6) that are running (not completed), will be deleted after the default retention time? (I cannot cancel them any more) Because as I understand, the Retention Period in Days, specifies the number of days after a Completed workflow instance will be deleted.

    Thank You
