When using the Gantt chart view in SharePoint, I am running into a restriction that I'd like to find a workaround for. The "title" column is embedded as the primary column for the view, but this isn't the field I want to use. We are using this view to view project phases and so we would like to group by the "phase" column, which is a lookup column.
Is there any way to modify the view to do this? It seems very restrictiive to me that you have to type in a Title value which is used as a column. It is crucial for us to control what gets used in that field, so we need to use a lookup.
I just created a Gantt View for a Links List and removed the URL field (removed the selection of it) and then specified the three fields I wanted to have included in the Gantt View (in a lower part of the View create screen). It was no problem at all to avoid seeing the URL field (that List's equivalent of the Title field).
