  • Question

  • Hi,

We are facing some strange problem with Microsoft Update Tool (ITMU) scan package. The current version of the pacakge is GSA00010.310.System, some clients are downloading it correctly but some clinets are downloading older version GSA00010.303.System package. The distribution points have the correct version and if we readvertise still the clients are running the older version GSA00010.303.System package.

We have tried our best, refreshing DPs, repairing clients but no result. Can not understand the problem.

  • The latest package version should be downloaded and sync by all the cliets to ensure they do the sycn with it and to report to sms site server with correct patch complaince(required or not required etc).

if the package version is old, ensure, check the patchinstall.log (which tells you whther the scanwrapper(update tool) agent has run or not) also check the hardware inventory scan on the computer if it is old or latest.

Here is the collection query which tells you what are all the computers has old package version which required troubleshooting.

    select SMS_R_System.ResourceID,SMS_R_System.ResourceType,SMS_R_System.Name,
    SMS_R_System.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_System.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,
    SMS_R_System.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_SCANPACKAGEVERSION on SMS_G_System_SCANPACKAGEVERSION.ResourceID = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where SMS_G_System_SCANPACKAGEVERSION.PackageVer < "70"

Where 70 is the package version. more info on this here http://eskonr.wordpress.com/2010/02/12/collection-for-windows-update-agent-doesnt-exist-on-systems/

You can also check, if Microsoft update tool has run successfully on all the computers where it advertised Via system status-->adevrtisememt status-->Microsoft update tool or Via Reporting.
