remove extra line breaks RRS feed

  • Question

  • Back in August I had asked about line breaks in my Outlook email (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrclientslegacy/thread/e57d4853-b750-4eac-b138-3a2c7485028c), then got help from another forum regarding the setting of a registry key to Remove extra line breaks in plain text messages.

I just received a new desktop running Win 7 Pro 64-bit and Outlook 2007, and so lost my setting.  Other messages on the subject in this forum suggest HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Options\Mail.  When I get to HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft there is no branch for "Office".   Others suggest [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Options\Mail, but again, when I get to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Options, there is a dead-end with no Mail folder.

    Suggestions?

  • You can have a look at the related KB article (about link breaks): http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/287816

    In Outlook 2003(2007), it's:

PART "Automatically clean up plain text messages" CHECKBOX
    KEYNAME Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Options\Mail
    VALUENAME AutoFormatPlainText
    VALUEON NUMERIC 1
    VALUEOFF NUMERIC 0

the KB article seems to have fixed it.  As for the other references, please allow me to point out a couple of things:

"PART "Automatically clean up plain text messages" CHECKBOX" -  Umm, in what context am I supposed to read that.  Is that within some applet under the control panel?  At some option in Outlook?  I'm sure it seems perfectly obvious to you, but it really is presented in a contextual vacuum.

As for the registry settings, I'm assuming the key reference is under HKCU.  However, I run into a dead-end at Software/Policies/Microsoft.  Below that, there is no Outlook branch.  And since this is on Win7 64-bit, I also checked HKCU/Software/Wow6432node and came up dry.  See my OP for other variants I looked at. While my immediate problem seems to be solved, I am curious now as to why there is no registry key for Outlook
