[Vista x64] - Slow USB speed RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

First of all, sorry for my grammar & stuff, as english isn't my native language .

Here's my problem, I guess I'm not the only one encountering it.

I get horrible speeds when transfering from my computer to any USB device, that is with one USB HDD and 2 different USB keys (2gb and 4gb).

By that I mean it takes more than 5 mins to transfer 1gb, where it won't even take 30 secs with XP.

As a solution, I installed the SP1 RC, but it didn't do any good. Also, I played with some settings such as "Optimize for best performances" and the other one (don't have it in english - sorry - it's something about optimization for deleting files), but it didn't really solved it.

If someone has a solution, I'm taking it.

Thanks in advance for your time.

    PS :
Vista is up to date with WindowsUpdate, and it was already a problem pre-SP1 RC so...

  • Hi all,

Seeing that it seem to work with a good brand (Corsair for example), I'll consider this one closed.

Still, SP1 did very well in improving transfer speed Smile

    See ya.

  • Hi Sebastien,

I'd like to suggest you install Cumulative update rollup for USB core components in Windows Vista.

  • Hi there !

    Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, the update won't install. I get an error and it says that the update doesn't apply to my system.

I downloaded the x64 version from the link you gave me.

Maybe it's already included in SP1 RC.

  • Hi,

    I'm using x64 Ultimate.

To my surprise, I've used 2 other brands of USB keys, and it seemed to work fine.

I will try again next week with another brand, then report here if the problem seems solved.

  • Hi Sebastien,

How about the result when you try to use it with another brand?

If the other USB keys works fine, it seems that the problem maybe related to the key itself, not Windows Vista.
