SPLA Licensing Forefront on TS/Citrix RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,
I have received different answers for this one, so I will ask it here.

    I have 10 computers, 15 thin clients, 25 users and 2 TS/Citrix servers.
I want to protect them all using the Forefront Client Security product licensed under SPLA.

Let me know if these two scenarios make sense, or if I am wrong:
    • Option 1, Get "per user" cals, so I need 25 per user cals.
    • Option 2, Get "per device" cals, so I need 12 per device cals in total: 10 for the workstation and 2 for the ts/citrix servers. Thin clients don't need protection.
I will obtain additional`"per device" cals for my other servers (AD, Print, File, Web...).

Some clarification here would be greatly appreciated, so thanks in advance!

  • I'm not a licensing guy but it definitley seems like device cal's make more sense in your case.  Typically TS/Citrix servers are great candidates for device cals.  You can't really install FCS on the thin clients so no cal needed there.  On the other hand though I just had a customer that had 400 odd thin clients running xp embedded that all managed to get conficker :( it was not a fun situation.
