Linux VM not detecting removal/failure of pass-through SCSI devices in Hyper-V Windows 2012R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

Does anyone know how we can get Linux VM (Gen-1), running in Hyper-V Win 2012R2, to recognize the removal or failure of pass-through SCSI disks?

We have a Linux (Centos 6.7) VM running with a number of pass-through SCSI disks but when (physically) removing a disk, Linux was unable to detect the loss of disk.  However, we can see that Hyper-V and Windows host themselves were detecting the drive failure/removal event and therefore changing the status of the removed pass-through drive.

We also observed that, with the Hyper-V virtual storage driver, Linux was not loading/using the typical mptsas driver for SCSI disks.  Wonder if there is a away to run Linux VM with the mptsas module that would work with the Hyper-V virtual storage driver

Thanks in advance for any advice or experience which you can share...
