Prevent users from deleting their Edge Browser history RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

The Edge Browser has very limited GPO's to manage the application in an Enterprise environment. Under Windows 10 Enterprise 1511 we would like the ability to stop users being able to delete their internet history.

We can do this perfectly fine in E11 but no similar policies exist for Edge. Is there any known reg hacks to achieve something similar? without this management we cannot offer the Edge browser as an alternative browser and reap its rewards.

    Thanks

    Patrick

  • Hi Paddy831,

The registry key I have posted before is related to ""Browsing history" option ". Please ensure that option is not ticked.

I have made a test on my side. The browsing history is not deleted. Once it worked, we could modify the registry key`s permission to restrict the user to modify the that option.

    Best regards

  • Hi Paddy831,

There is no gpo to control the behavior of deleting browsing history. I tried to capture the related registry keyconfiguration of those options.
I found "Browsing history" option is related controlled by this registry key.
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppContainer\Storage\microsoft.microsoftedge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\MicrosoftEdge\Privacy]
    "CleanHistory"=dword:00000000
We could try to modify the permissions of this registry key to restrict the user to clear the browsing history.

I hope my clarification will be useful to you.

    Best regards

  • Hi MeipoXu,

I changed the DWORD to 0 but unfortunately it had no effect, I was still able to clear the Edge Browser history.
