Upgrade MIM 2016 sp1 (RTM) -> latest hotfix. Uninstall/Reinstall. Will the SSPR registrations and Q&A remain unchanged? RRS feed

  • For some reason the Password Registration/Reset is heavily used.

    Before we launch this Upgrade of MIM 2016 (RTM) to MIM 2016 Sp1 + KB4050936 in Production, I would like to know: will all those users that have registered and given answers to questions in MIM RTM still be Registered and still have their answers matched to questions after the reinstall of SSPR?

    I ask as this Uninstall/Reinstall seems a drastic way to upgrade MIM.

    There is no way the question/answers could get "lost", is there?

  • MIM RTM to MIM SP1 (4.4.1302.0) is a patch/update.  You do not have to uninstall/re-install the product.  The Q&A is not lost during the patch.  As always, perform a backup of your databases and configuration before performing the upgrade.

  • The version I understand as MIM 2016 Sp1 RTM is 4.4.1237.0

    The MS articles describing upgrade paths to latest hotfix (4.4.1749.0) state I must upgrade this 4.4.1237.0 version by uninstall/install.

    Are you certain that I can go from 4.4.1237.0 to 4.4.1302.0 via msiexec /p <4.4.1302.0_patch name> as this is not described in any technet article.

    However, I am optimistic now that those Registered users will not have to re-register and re-supply answers to questions.

  • Sorry for the late response. The initial SP1 release did not allow upgrade and required a full uninstall and re-install.  Shortly after that release, due to feedback, Microsoft released an updated SP1 which allows for upgrade.  Here is the blog post with that announcement:
