FIM 2010 reporting capabilities RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have read that FIM 2010 R1 doesn't have reporting capabilities. I have to build reports about the new users added in a certain date, reports that show all the data of a user, etc. Is there a way to configure FIM Portal for reporting? Or should I use third party tools? If yes, can you mention some of these tools?

    Thank You

  • You can start with FIM Data Processing Extension for SQL Reporting Services - http://fimdpe.codeplex.com/ or  Powershell DPE- http://psdpe.codeplex.com/ and FIM cmdlets. Actually author (cheers Craig ;) ) is recommending using the later and I've used it with success as well.

For Your needs it should be suitable.

Other tools are for example metaconomy cloud based solution - http://metaconomy.com/ or <shameless plug> our FIM reporting http://www.predica.pl/EN/Solutions/Products/FIMProducts/Pages/FIMReporting.aspx </shameless plug>.

  • Hi,

What about the Omada product range recently aquired by MS?

    cheers

  • I didn't see the announcement that MS had acquired Omada - must have missed that ;)

MS acquired BHOLD last year. BHOLD does have some pretty good reporting tools but they are really optimized for reporting on the data within BHOLD's DB. You can use it to do reporting on FIM too by creating views in BHOLD's DB that call on data from the MV (or a "Shadowverse" rather than potentially locking up the MV). Metaconomy looks pretty cool and our OCG DE colleagues also have their own reporting solution that pulls data both from the MV and FIM Service DB (http://www.oxfordcomputergroup.de/ProdukteLösungen/AuditundReportingSolutionfürFIM.aspx)

  • My bad, apologies guys - I meant BHOLD, thanks Dave

  • No worries ;) Actually, I also just realized that BHOLD would be no good for the OP because it comes with R2 and the question was about R1

  • There are now a lot of reporting features and open-source reporting solutions for FIM.  Each has their own capabilities and benefits, but here are the ones that I know of:

    • NetPro Mission Control (RIP - that tool was awesome! I hope Dell brings it back some day ;-)
    • Brad Turner's Reporting Pack (from 2007?)
    • Reporting in CLM
    • FIM 2010 R2 Reporting (based on System Center)
    • BHOLD
    • FIM Data Processing Extension (CodePlex)
    • PowerShell Data Processing Extension (CodePlex)
    • MetaConomy (still haven't tried this myself)

The FIM Data Processing Extension (http://fimdpe.codeplex.com) got some Mojo (big updates from Joe Zamora, thanks Joe!!!).

My preference is still the PowerShell Data Processing Extension (it is what I use mostly now), but again it is not a replacement for the new reporting feature in R2, or BHOLD, it just so happens to meet my requirements most of the time.
