return-Path email address changing when sending mail to Distribution list RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I am having Exchange 2013, have one DL (TestDL@mydomain.com)with local mailboxes and external contacts (contact@remotedomain.com) as members.

When someone from outside of my org (John@xyz.com) sending email to that DL (TestDL@mydomain.com), a copy is going out to the contact (contact@remotedomain.com) which is also member of that DL. IF  contact@remotedomain.com mailbox set for OOF at target Exchange, the response is getting delivered to all users in the DL instead of only john@xyz.com since he is the orginal sender. When we tracked the message header, after delivering the mail to DL, the return-path is changing from john@xyx.com to TestDL@mydomain.com...

    1) How to prevent this return-path modification?

    2) or else can we block such auto generated emails to that DL?

    Thanks in Advance

    JMSE

  • Hi JMSE,

Based on my knowledge, there is no way to prevent this return-path modification process. We can use a transport rule to block such auto generated emails to the DL, as below:

    Hope this helps,
