Recommendation of NTP server in VM(For OS windows server 2019 std) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear Team,

For configuring NTP server, below are the client requirement:

    1) Ntp Server should created in VM(Hyper-V)

    2) Don't add NTP server in domain.

    3) Don't connect internet to NTP server

    4) That NTP server communicated through local CMOS.

Now we have created NTP server in VM(os is windows server 2019 std) but client system has getting failed to connect/sync with NTP.

    My question is:

    1) Is it possible to work NTP in VM as per above requirement?

    Kindly provide us the solution.

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Are you client machines joined to an Active Directory domain? If so, the client machines get time from the domain controllers by default.

  • But customer don't want to create NTP in domain controller, he require NTP individually and he doesn't provide internet to NTP server.

And he want NTP server in VM.

Is it possible to create NTP server in VM without domain and internet(In VM os is windows server 2019 std.)?

  • Where will this NTP server get its time signal from with no internet?

You can create an NTP server in a VM in Hyper-V, but unless it's syncing with the physical host via the Integration Components or via an internet NTP server, it's time will fall out of sync due to the virtualization of the hardware.   The Integration Components will allow the VM to sync to the physical host's CMOS/BIOS.

Please address Hyper-V server questions in the Hyper-V forum, as this one is for Virtual Server 2005.
