  • Question

  • Is it possible to back up an Exchange 2010 SP2 server with DPM 2012 SP1 running on Windows 2012?

When I attempt to install the Exchange 2010 SP2 management console, I receive an error stating that Windows 8 isn't supported and the install aborts.

My understanding is that all that is needed is a current copy of eseutil.exe and ese.dll, so can I skip the management tool install and just copy these files from one of my Exchange 2010 servers and back them up with DPM 2012 SP1 running on Windows 2012?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Erik,

It is possible to backup Exchange 2010 with DPM 2012 on W2K12. You don't need to install Exchange 2010 SP2 management console.

Copy Eseutil.exe and Ese.dll from Exchange bin directory to DPM bin directory.

  • Hey Stephane, I had read that on Technet as well and was hoping that copying eseutil.exe and ese.dll from one of my Exchange servers would be sufficient enough, but I still wanted a second opinion just in case! Thanks for getting back to me. Guess I'm off to finish my DPM server rebuild and see if it can sync my Exchange DBs. Have a good weekend!
