Export to Excel: Data could not be retrieved from the database RRS feed

  • Question

  • One of my users called me today and told me that they receive an error message whenever they try to export data from a SharePoint list to Excel 2007:

Data could not be retrieved from the database

I have tested the export with multiple different login details on my own machine and it works fine. She tried the export on two different machines (Vista and Windows 7) and both create the same error. I really cannot imagine what could be causing this problem. Her permissions all seem to be correct, she can see all data in the list without problems. Only when she gets to the export does it create an error.

    Any ideas?

  • Hi andreasbbbbb,

There is a known issue that SharePoint list cannot be exported to Excel when last column contains a date.

For that reason, here is a workaround:

Modify current view, place a non-date column to the last column and export to Excel.

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Thanks for the response Peng.

The last column is not a date and I believe this issue is only applicable to Windows XP. It occured on both Vista and Windows 7.

It must be something else that is causing the error message.
