Keyboard and mouse freeze, battery reads "unkown remaining" RRS feed

  • Question

  • This is not a question but an FYI to help others searching for solutions.

My Windows 7 Home Premium suddenly started freezing the mouse and keyboard for about a second every 5 seconds.  I also noticed that Windows was having issues detecting the notebook battery.  When unplugged, the battery in the system tray would read "unknown remaining" and when plugged in it just said charging but was not sure how much remaining.

Long story short (and lots of root cause process left out), I fixed this by shutting down the system, unplugging it, and removing the battery.  Put the battery back in and boot the system.  This will cause Windows to redetect the battery and the recurring keyboard and mouse freezes will go away because Windows is no longer polling for battery state every 5 seconds.
