Outlook 2007 is having issues connecting to Exchange 2010 servers. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am working in a project where there are Exchange 2010 servers and the users are using Outlook 2007 clients. Some of the users are having a strange problem , when they are opening outlook for the first time, it remains inactive for a long time , then a dialog box appears which says that the Microsoft Exchange Server is not available , Retry , WorkOffline or Cancel, but the funny part is  when we click on the Retry button Outlook is opening just fine.

Can anyone please help me with a proper explanation of this issue.

  • Hi,

It seems to be a network issue. Please do the following steps to narrow down the issue:

    1. Ping the Exchange server from the problematic client and confirm whether the correct IP address is returned.

    2. Ping the GC (NetBios ) and DC from the client side.

    3. Confirm whether there are two IP address for Exchange server or GC, DC.

If there are two NIC, Outlook connects to the First IP Address for referral and when it retries, it connects to the Next IP. If that is the case, we can remove one IP address record and confirm whether the issue persists.
