Unable to install DPM agent, error 293. HELP! RRS feed

  • Question

  • So I added a node to our production Hyper-V cluster. DPM 2012 R2 runs backups on it. DPM detected that I added a node and that I need to install DPM agent on that new server. fine...I asked DPM to install it (under Management  >> Add>>)

Unfortunately, I keep getting this error:

The protection agent operation failed. The credentials you provided do not belong to a valid domain user account. (ID: 293)

I am 100% sure of the user account's creds. I have tried using other accounts who also have admin rights on the server. I have even tried adding other standalone servers to DPM. I even installed DPM agent manually and tried "attach agent" option.......everything ends up giving this @#$@ error!  :-(

    Please HELP!

  • I found out the solution...

The format of credentials was wrong. DPM's wizard  asks for :

    Username:

    Password:

    Domain:

However, the domain is already pre-populated to my domain name, but has FQDN in it. "that" was the problem. The moment I changed it to the short form of our domain, it worked!

    What I mean is:

    Does not work : subdomain.mycompanyname.com (pre-populated)

    What works: mycompanyname

    Hope this helps someone!
