Server 2008 R2 x64- Server Manager Refresh fails after windows update KB983590

Server Manager fails to refresh after the following Windows Updates failed to install:

KB983590 - Security Update for .Net Framework 3.5.1

KB978886 - Security Update for Windows 2008 R2 x64

Ran System Update Readiness Tool and fixed several errors, but I can't find the files for the last four unavailable repair files anywhere:

That is what I was already following. The problem is I can not find the four files above. I looked on another Windows 2008 R2 server and they are not there. I also looked in the KB983590 CAB files, and on the Windows 2008 R2 DVD (using DISM), and none of them have these specific files.

Originally, I was missing eight files total, but I was able to find 2 in the KB983590 CAB files, and 2 more from another Server.

Does anyone know where these last four files would be located, or have copies of them?

Hi,

I can only find 3 similar files on my computer. Two of them are x86_microsoft-windows-ie-iecompat_31bf3856ad364e35_8.0.7600.16620_none_bbbc0999091382e3.manifest and x86_microsoft-windows-ie-iecompat_31bf3856ad364e35_8.0.7600.20741_none_bc3106d6224073e6.manifest.

But I cannot find the other two.

If you cannot find them on other computers, I am afraid you may need to perform an In-place Upgrade of your system.

Microsoft really needs to FIX this issue. The fact that Windows Server Updates are breaking Server Manager, so that new roles and new features can no longer be installed is a MAJOR PROBLEM.

I can only hope this will be fixed in 2008 R2 SP1.

I'm now afraid to install any futher updates on any 2008 R2 servers.
