I am working for retail organisation and we are planning to implement our own Windows embededded POSReady 7 images. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Currently we are getting images from our POS/Register vendor.

can we buy windows embedded Posready 7 directly from Microsoft and get licence keys. So we can create our own image and use it with MDT or SCCM.

whats is the difference between Windows Embedded Standard 7 and Windows Embedded POSReady 7 (Enterprise).

Can anyone help me with the answers.

    Thanks in Advance !

  • You should contact a Microsoft distributor to get the POSReady ISO and license keys. Your company will have to sign a license agreement with Microsoft.

WES7 breaks Windows 7 into selectable components. WES7 is used in a variety of embedded systems. There is some work involved with creating the custom installer.

POSReady is intended for POS/Register systems that you are building. POSReady 7 (or Windows 10 IoT Enterprise (aka Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB/LTSC) is the correct solution for you. You can either install it just like Windows 7 or use System Image Manager from the ADK to create a custom installer and include device drivers.

Keep it in mind that POSReady will go EOL in 2021: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/search?alpha=Windows%20Embedded%20POSReady%207
