Windows Fax & Scan to Modem Connection Problems RRS feed

  • Question

  • Windows Fax & Scan is unable to dial the internal modem.

This problem had been solved. A recent in-place windows restore broke it. I can’t find what I did to fix it previously.

    Symptoms:

When trying to send a fax from Windows Fax & Scan, the connection sound is a very nasty buzzing sound. This is what it sounds like: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Ag3kMlvkg9qhjE-Ku4gNimIuSr1N

    Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

    1. Updated the modem driver from

    Agere System PCI-SV92PP Soft Modem

    to

    LSI PCI-SV92PP Soft Modem 2.2.98.0

    2. Ran Device Manager > Modem Diagnostics > Query Modem.

    3. Control Panel > Phone and Modem shows the modem correctly attached to Com3. Properties… “This device is working properly.” Advanced Port Settings shows the modem is on Com3.

    4. I’ve tried uninstalling the modem, and rebooting: no change, but the driver may have been rolled back. I updated the driver if it had been rolled back.

    5. Ran PassMark ModemTest. Configured to test Com3 (the only “Available” Com.) Ran Local Diagnostics. Results: No obvious problems. See: https://1drv.ms/t/s!Ag3kMlvkg9qhjFDdb4zu7aNtJmJo
