Uninstalling IE10 changes IE shortcut to launch 64bit version RRS feed

  • [Using Windows 7 Enterprise x64]

With IE9 installed, in the Start menu are two shortcuts for IE -- 32bit version and 64bit version.

    The 32bit version points to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

    The 64bit version point to "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

If install IE10, then uninstall it, the link to the 32bit version points now points to "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" (i.e., the 64bit version)

I've reproduced this a couple times. This is a problem for us as some things in Sharepoint do not work with the 64bit version.

  • Hi,

correct.... IE10 Enhanced Protected Mode is the equivalent to IEx x64. see the Advanced tab of Internet Options in IE10.

the difference is that EPM in IE10 allows your to use isolated tabs (by domain) that run the content in a x86 process.... see the Processes tab of TasksManager.
