Question

i m trying to connect to vpn server with pptp ...
i added the ports 1723 and 1701 to the server firewall
i selected the chap and chapv2 in the security in both server and client
i selected allow in the dial up tab in the user setting
i added the user to domain users , remote desktop user , and administrator groups
yet everytime i try to connect i get a message to re enter username and password
i made sure that they are valid
what could be the problem ?
could it be the router ?
i ve a vodafone router and i created 2 port redirections to the server ip
also my firewall is turned off
i m using windows 7 and the server is windows server 2008

Hi,
PPTP clients can be placed behind a NAT if the NAT has an editor for traffic, therefore please check your router support or nonsupport the PPTP package across or you forget to turn it on.

Hi,
I agree with Alex that the VPN client is located behind the router without a NAT editor for PPTP to across a NAT. You can try to have a test without the router to verify if it can work fine.
In addition, PPTP uses TCP for tunnel management and GRE to encapsulate PPP frames for tunneled data. Maybe you would to configure with GRE allowed both ways and TCP port 1723 opened outbound.
