Snip & Sketch Windows 10 2004

Question

Is it just me, or is the Snip & Sketch app broken in Windows 10 2004? I have tried it on 3 computers and it simply does not work.

I never found out exactly what entry in my GPO was causing my issue. I deleted the GPO and recreated it with the same settings and all is well.

Hi,
Please check if the issue occur on a new create user account.
What's your system build? Please run "winver" to check the build number.
Please go to Settings\Apps\Apps&features and search for "Snip&Sketch" to get "Advanced options", click it to find Reset option and reset it.
If the issue persists, we could open PowerShell and run command line as administrator to register screensketch.
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name Microsoft.screensketch | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml” -Verbose}

Hello,
Try updating your video driver to latest version and see if it helps. If issue still persists, uninstall the app and reinstall it back from Microsoft Store.
Regards.

Creating a new user account isn't a solution for 100's of existing user profiles. It does work on a fresh install of Version 2004, just not upgraded from 1909 to 2004
Winver = 190412.329
Done the reset, no change
Registered app from powershell, no change
I uninstalled it. I even deleted the packages for Microsoft.screensketch from C:\program files\WindowsApps. Then reinstalled, no change
When I run it, I click the New button and all I get is a thin yellow boarder around my monitors.

Update.
It appears to be a group policy causing this. When I remove the machine from the domain and clear out the group policies, it works. Rejoined the machine to the domain, but put in a container with no policies applied, and it works. Now for the hard part, which policy entry do I have that would cause this.

Found out which GPO is causing it, now to figure out what entry. When I find it, I'll post it.

You didn't ever give the basic GPO even if you didn't find the entry. Can you provide more details? I use this feature regularly and it's currently not working so I'm back to the snipping tool.Friday, July 10, 2020 7:34 PM

I would suggest you start your own thread about your issue. What you are describing is not what I had to solve, a totally different issue.

HI kiwimasterfisherman,
looking further at my issue with Snip&Skatch apps i found some interesting article that can help to understand better how it works
>I have this happening on multiple pc's that have just updated to windows 10 2004..
These pc's are in a domain with WSUS?
please take a look here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/update/fod-and-lang-packs
from win10 1709 and above FODs are not hosted by WSUS.
If it is so, try to follow instructions on how to configure FODs GPO.The Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair policy, located under
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System
in the Group Policy Editor, can be used to specify alternate ways to acquire FOD packages, language packages, and content for corruption repair. However, it’s important to note this policy only allows specifying one alternate location and behaves differently across OS versions.Hope this helps to find solution.

Another interesting link is below:
that shows which Fods are necessary and Do not to be removed.
