accessing Data Mining Add-in Excel 2016 64bit RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have installed SQL Server 2016 Community Technology Preview 2 (CTP2.2), which I thought included the Data Mining Add-in for Excel.

I have Excel 2016 on 64 bit machine.

Server installed fine, with one warning on available ports.

    Cannot find the Add-in.

Is there a separate download? If so, where can I find it?

  • Hi,

Microsoft SQL Server Data Mining Add-in for Excel is not included in SQL Server installer, it needs to download separately from Download Center.

Since SQL Server 2016 CTP2 is the newest version and still a test version, some tools are not published at the moment.

As per my understanding, I think it is expected out after SQL Server 2016 is released. We can notice that Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Data Mining Add-ins for Microsoft Office is released after SQL Server 2012 is released. Stick with Microsoft SQL Server 2012 SP2 Data Mining Add-ins for Microsoft Office for Excel 2013 for now.

    Thanks,

  • We have been told that since we upgraded the Office 2013 license to 365 we have to purchase another Excel 2013 license and install it side by side to continue to use the Data Mining Client.

Is that the new business model for your licensing team?
Keep an add-in from working in the new product, telling me the new product does work, then asking me to pay for another product licenses for the upgraded old product to fix it?

What is your solution, other than running two different versions of Excel on the same computer, for being able to do this in Excel 2016 today?

  • You can do what I just did.

    1) Install Office 2013 trial (Excel only, mark everything else as don't install).

    2) Install SQL 2012 SP3 DM Addin https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=49997

    3) Open Excel 2016 and configure plugin (It pops up and ask you to configure automatically)

    4) Uninstall Office 2013 trial

    5) Repair Office 2016

  • Hi, Unfortunately that keeps returning the following error

    << Setup is missing prerequisites:

    - 64-bit version of Microsoft Office 2010

    Go to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=216742
