Re-Adding Microsoft Office items back to the New Context Menu RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a user who has Office 2010 on her system and had the option of right-clicking in Explorer and going to New and then having the option to click Excel Document, Word Document, etc. The other day we purchased Publisher 2013 and it has removed those option from the New Context Menu. I have tried adding these option back in my creating a .reg file with this in it:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xlsx\ShellNew]
     "FileName"="excel12.xlsx"

    I have also made sure the excel12.xlsx is in the %windir\ShellNew folder but it will still not add it to the New Context menu. Any ideas what I can do to bring this back?

  • Just answered my own question. I had to do this.

    Click Start > Run > and type winword.exe /r

    It must re-register the program and place it in the correct places.
